ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Commerce started during the Year 1994 & PG was commenced from the year 2011. At Present we have four sections Totaling 690 Students and 17 Faculties with rich Experience.  Our Main Motto is to give Qualitative Teaching to the Students imbibed with Discipline. The department provides new avenues and path for the growth of Business education and Managerial Skills. The faculty members always recognize the necessity of the individual development of students through innovative teaching methods, group discussions and Industrial Visits. Commerce students have Secured 22 University ranks in Tamil, English and French. It is always Practice of the students to score Centum in Financial Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Income Tax and Financial Management.

The Department of Commerce is committed to provide top-notch Commerce Education Courses (B.Com.) to students, instilling in them the principles of banking, finance, and business, to meet the ever-changing demands of the business world and produce professionals in various sector.

  • Generating and providing resources and facilities for faculty and students to foster innovative ideas.
  • Creating an urge in students to pursue entrepreneurship, fostering self-reliance instead of dependence on others, while identifying and encouraging their entrepreneurial abilities.
  • Equipping the next generation to deal with the challenges of the modern world and to become true global citizens.
DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

Every Year the Department of Commerce organizes Intercollegiate meet  “JOSEPHS SYNERGY 2019”.  On 13th Feb.2019, a Colourful and Memorable “ JOSEPH SYNERGY 2K19” was organized by PG Department of Commerce.  For this mega inter-collegiate competition, totally 13 colleges (104 students) from in and around Chennai City took part.  Our Department students, totally 650 students were presented on that day.  The Grand inaugural show commenced by the arrival of the Chief Guest “JIT GOEL”, CEO of XCEL Corp.  We have honoured our department outstanding students with merit certificates and also honoured the students who had 100% attendance during the academic year 2018-2019.

Our department has organized FDP programme on “Tax Planning and Investment”, chaired by Mr. Sundaraman CA which was conducted on 07th feburary 2019.

Student Achievements:

  • 32 Students of Commerce Department, Accounting & Finance participated in “INTERFEST” competition held on 25th December 2018 in Guru Nanak & Loyola College
  • 29 students from Commerce Department participated in the Inter college competition held on Dec 14th in the Loyola College & Mr. A.Manikandan of final year B.Com Won I prize in the event named “SHIPWRECK”
  • S. Divya secured University rank in the year 2018
  • Monisha & Nivedhini of B.Com ‘B’ section won Rs.600 cash prize in the Adzap Competition conducted by Asan memorial college
  • Kiruthiga of I B.Com ‘B’ Section won Rs.300 cash prize in LOGO designing competition conducted by Asan memorial college
  • Jenifer of II B.Com ‘B’ Section won III prize in “BUSINESS PLAN” competition conducted by Sindhi college
  • Nandhakumar II B.com ‘B’ Section won Rs.3000 cash prize in the competition “RED CHAI” at Asan Memorial college
  • Aiswarya, Rethika, Devayani from II year B.Com ‘B’ Section have won I prize in the “STREET PLAY – HUMANITY” at Sindhi college.

Faculty Achievements:

  • Dr .K. Valarmathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce has published her research in “Emperor International Journal of Finance & Management” and paper title is “INCOME & EXPENDITURE PATTERN OF THE SANITARY WORKERS”
  • On 12th February 2019, Mrs. E. Evangeline, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce presented her paper on “WORKLIFE BALANCE OF WOMAN FACULTY” in Engineering college, with special reference to Kanchipuram district, at Nehru memorial college, Trichy
  • P.Vani & Ms.S.Revathi, Assistant Professors, Department of Commerce has Qualified SET
  • T.Santhiya & Mrs.K.Nimitha, Assistant Professors, Department of Commerce has Qualified NET & SET
  • T.Sakthivel, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce was awarded with Doctorate degree in Economics
  • T. Sakthivel, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce has presented a paper on “Study on Tank irrigation on Koliyanur block, Vilupuram District” on National Conference held on 25th January 2018
